Fashion: Black Milk
Pin ItAustralian indie fashion label Black Milk has taken the world of Lycra by storm, churning out luscious leggings, sensational swimsuits and to-die-for dresses for an ever-increasing fan-base. With clothing that strikes just the right balance between High Street trends and the more edgy side of fashion, it’s easy to see why Black Milk is becoming recognised the world over.
Here at MouthLondon, we decided to compile a list of the top 5 must-haves that Black Milk has to offer… Without further ado, we present to you the what, why, and how of Black Milk’s hottest looks.
5. What: Beetlejuice Leggings
Why: Stripes are set to be big this Autumn, so get ahead of the trends with this stylish pair of leggings. What’s more, monochrome is a classic look, and the vertical stripes provide a slimming effect, so it’s three for the price of one!
How: Team these with a baggy band tee and a pair of Docs to pull off a grungy-chic look.
4. What: Galaxy Rainbow Dress
Why: This beautiful dress will provide your wardrobe with a dose of summer brightness, and with the terrible weather we’ve been having lately, who wouldn’t want to inject a spurt of colour?
How: Wear this dress out on the town paired with some metallic or glittery heels, or alternatively smarten it up with a black blazer, opaque tights and black riding boots.
3. What: Pyramid Leggings
Why: Earlier this season, we reported on the rise of the studded look. The effect created by these Pyramid Leggings panders perfectly to the craze for all things studded, and furthermore the geometric shapes fit the bill for next season’s Digital trend, so this piece can also be carried over to your AW12 wardrobe. Score!
How: Wear these with a plain black long-line peplum top and let the leggings do the talking! Add court shoes for smarter occasions, or black platform wedges on a night out.
2. What: Shark vs. Mermaid Swimsuit
Why: What’s not to love?! We adore this cute retro print which smacks of Jaws and The Little Mermaid, plus the white-to-blue colour contrast is reminiscent of this season’s hot dip-dye look.
How: Wear it as a swimsuit on the beach or by the pool (obviously), and after the holidays, combine it with skinny jeans and a baggy cardi – as you would do a leotard – to ensure you still get wear out of it. Nobody will ever guess that it’s actually a swimming cossie!
1. What: Super Drape Top
Why: The possibilities are endless. As Black Milk’s most versatile offering, this draped top could equally be described as a draped dress, and can be worn in a number of different ways. The material is light and translucent, yet still falls beautifully, and, in the words of Black Milk’s founder James Lillis, “It looks really cool when you walk – it sways at the back, so if you like walking around, I think this might just be the perfect top for you” … ’Nuff said.
How: Wear it as a top with some brightly coloured leggings or skinny jeans, or as a dress with lacy tights and velvet slipper shoes. Be sure to accessorize to the max – from chunky chains to spikey bracelets to layered necklaces and statement pendants. This top is like a blank canvas, so just about anything goes.
