This Fashion Week, we’ve seen the crème de la crème of new and innovative designs, as well as a cheeky nod to the 90s (we refer here to Ashish’s lashings of scrunchies and Reebok Classics). However, having your best interests at heart, we at MouthLondon have come up with some magic ways to breeze into SS13, still rocking some of your AW12 key pieces… Trust us – your wallet will thank us!
From the sequinned jumpsuits on the Ashish catwalk to Mulberry’s shiny gold kimono-style jackets, it’s obvious that this Season’s metallic trend can be transferred to next Season with relative ease. If you haven’t got one already, why not invest in a metallic mini dress this side of the New Year, in order to get a good two Seasons’ wear out of it? Topshop do a lovely silver mini for £30.00, which can be worn with chunky knits during the winter, then sandals when the sun comes out next summer!
This LFW, Simone Rocha favoured neon lace with bold flowers, whilst Mulberry went for a more neutral eau de nil. The good news is that, whether you prefer to stand out or to go for a more conservative look, your AW12 lace will definitely see you into next Season. The Pussycat Cream Retro Lace Knit Dress from New Look’s online store (£25.00) is a perfect example of a dress that will span the Seasons, the super-versatile colour taking you from winter snow to spring snowdrops just like that. Alternatively, the Matalan All Over Lace Jersey – coming in at a very modest £12.00 – is a more vibrant magenta colour, so you can get creative with colour blocking this Season, or pair it with a 50s style skirt for an SS13 vibe.
This season, it’s all about baroque opulence, daring prints and exciting textures. The Holly Fulton and Matthew Williamson SS13 catwalks at London Fashion Week offered a healthy helping of patterned trousers in particular, which is good news for anyone who’s invested in a pair of outlandish trousers this Season. Warehouse does a lovely pair of Tile Print Suit Trousers for £45.00 in maroon, grey and navy or red, black and white (these also come with matching suit jackets – AMAZING!) We’re also rather taken with Monsoon’s Corinthia Printed Trousers (£49.00), and Primark do a similar pair for a more student-friendly £14.00.
So, whether it’s a pair of metallic shorts or a candy pink lace dress, think twice before you condemn anything to the bottom of your wardrobe when SS13 rolls around!
