Despite the commotion in England from a certain disciplinary case and the confirmation that Lewis Hamilton is to join a Mercedes next year, if you weren’t a cricket fan you would have been hard-pressed to know that there was a cricketing tournament going on.

For the last three weeks or so Sri Lanka has been court up in cricketing mania as the World T20 Finals descended on the country. Unfortunately for the home nation things did not work out as intended despite recording a good start in the final, the West Indies came back and rocked them beating them by 36 runs.

Held at the same time as the Women’s 20/20 Finals the tournament has been graced with some fine cricketing with Australia’s Shane Watson impressive in his country’s run to the semi-finals (where they were subsequently knocked out by the West Indies). Other impressive players in the tournament were Mahela Jayawardene (Sri Lanka) and Marlon Samuels (West Indies).

Defeat came as something of a disappointment…

England were dealt a disappointing result in both the Men’s and the Women’s tournaments with the men going out in the Super 8 stage coming third and well off the pace set by the eventual finalists. The women fared better, reaching the final only to lose to Australia who retained their title. Defeat came as something of a disappointment considering their recent form with hopes that they could add some silverware.

So the West Indies win, something that seemed unlikely considering how poorly they started. What was your moment of the tournament? Let us know in the comments below.
