If you’ve ever seen Robot Chicken then you’ll understand the madness of a game made by its creators [adult swim]. Monsters Ate My Condo is what I would term a crazy game as so much happens on your iPhone’s screen that it’s hard not to smile and enjoy yourself even if it is complete confusion, panic and lunacy.
The basis of the game is that giant, colourful monsters are attacking your apartment building and you have to keep them at bay as long as possible. The apartment building is made up of various coloured blocks that fall from the sky to replace those that you either feed to the monsters or make 3+ of the same colour and then vaporize into big bonus points. Think Bejewelled meets Tetris meets monsters and you’re almost there. The longer you play, the more manic things get, from bonuses to making the monsters fall asleep to give you added time to throw condos at them.
…make them stomp angrily, bringing your apartment building crashing to the ground…
The enjoyment of this game comes from the fast changing of colours and monsters as feeding the wrong colour to a monster can upset it and make them stomp angrily, bringing your apartment building crashing to the ground. A large breasted Viking lady sings a song and it’s game over.
The music is an incredible highlight of this gaming experience as each monster has its own catchy theme so swapping over the monsters mid game makes for some funky mixes and rhythmic gameplay.
…mutated pop stars that become giant blue unicorns…
The game is split up into Endless Mode and Time Attack (which is unlocked after you play Endless Mode) and even has a little section all about the monsters. If you’re into mutated pop stars that become giant blue unicorns you are in for one hell of a treat.
The game is a fun time waster and it’s incredibly bright visuals, crazy soundtrack and feel makes for fun on that boring bus/train ride home.
