With a career almost spanning a quarter of a century, hip-hop/neo soul group The Roots have been influencing and transforming the genre with their upbeat, jazz infused sounds securing themselves a lasting fame and critical praise which has gradually increased ever since the release of their first album Organix.

Originally named The Square Roots, the ensemble was formed by Black Thought (Tariq Trotter) and Questlove (Ahmir Thompson), and with MC Malik B. and Hub (Leon Hubbard) the Roots began as a four piece but over the years have grown in size and talent with new members emerging every couple of years.

The Roots are bringing their unique eclectic sound to The Apollo in Hammersmith…

Now with eight members including Kamal Gray (electronic keyboard), F. Knuckles (percussion), Captain Kirk Douglas (electric guitar) and Tuba Gooding Jr. (Damon Bryson) on the sousaphone, The Roots are bringing their unique eclectic sound to The Apollo in Hammersmith this August.

With their acclaimed focus on live instrumentation the show is guaranteed to be a sell-out performance as they play hits from a list of thirteen records including; Things Fall Apart, Phrenology, Game Theory and Wake Up! (the latter a collaboration with John Legend).
