For eight years, Robin Van Persie featured for Arsenal.

The last two years of his time at Arsenal, Van Persie led the line for the Gunners. He stayed injury free and scored plenty of goals. In his final season for Arsenal, Van Persie scored 30 goals in the premier league and 37 in all competitions. But when Van Persie announced he wouldn’t sign a new contract, Manchester United came calling.

With his move to arch rivals Manchester United, many Arsenal fans were left feeling aggrieved that they have lost their captain and their best player to a team who is also competing for the championship. They feel that how can they challenge for the title when they are selling their best player to a team who are also competing. Fans were upset to lose him, but with Arsenal not winning a trophy since the FA Cup in 2005, Van Persie wanted a move to a team that were competitive year in, year out.

…he has hit the ground running…

Since Van Persie made his 24 million pound move from Arsenal to Manchester United, he has hit the ground running. From his match winning hat trick against Southampton to his goal and man of the match performance against Chelsea, Van Persie has been a real asset to Manchester United. His 9 goals in 12 games and his partnership with Wayne Rooney has put United in really good shape in the early part of the season and if maintained, will see them challenging for the title come May.

One thing for sure, Robin Van Persie is a goal scorer. If he stays fit, he is one of the best strikers in the world. A reason why Arsenal fans were devastated to lose him, but also why Manchester United were delighted to get him.
