…fans around the world were in shock…
But on valentines day, fans around the world were in shock, as news broke that the great Paralympian had shot his girlfriend Reeva Steenkamp dead.
It is reported that Pistorius was asleep at his mansion, when in the early hours of the morning, he thought he heard an intruder. He then shot the intruder, only for it to be his girlfriend Reeva. The shots were fatal and the news soon broke.
…Pistorius has strongly denied that it was premeditated murder…
Fans are in shock. Someone they idolised and aspired to be like is now on a murder charge. Posters of Pistorius around South Africa and around the world were taken down after the revelation.
As the days have passed since the murder broke, Pistorius has strongly denied that it was premeditated murder and will dispute the charge.
…a bloodied cricket bat…
But the reports in the papers sees the evidence stacking up against Pistorius. From shooting at Reeva four times, but hitting her with three, a bloodied cricket bat, why the bathroom was locked, reports he had a temper and Reeva receiving texts from another man. With reports now surfacing that steroids were found in his mansion, the revelations will leave his fans and fans of the sport distraught.
However Pistorius’ defence is that he believed Reeva was in bed whilst he thought an intruder was in his bathroom. He then approached the door without his prosthetic legs and shot into the bathroom. When he turned the lights on to see Reeva was not in bed, the realisation of what he done hit him. He broke into the bathroom using the cricket bat, rushed her downstairs to perform mouth to mouth and call the ambulance.
…a long road back for the greatest Paralympian…
Through the legal proceedings, Pistorius’ sponsors and partners are supportive and their contractual commitments will be maintained. His commitments to races for the foreseeable future have been cancelled as they work on the case and fight to clear his name.
The blade runner’s image has been tarnished. Whatever the outcome, it will be a long road back for the greatest Paralympian.
