It all started at the Survivor Series when a group known from NXT interfered in the nights WWE Championship main event.

Dean Ambrose, Seth Rollins and Roman Reigns attacked Ryback in the middle of the ring and the outside area by power bombing him through the announce table which handed CM Punk the victory. This was very familiar to the nexus’ debut back in 2010 which was led by Wade Barrett with them wanting to make a huge statement in changing the landscape of the WWE.

With this group however, there are no pyrotechnics or spectacular entrances. They come from the crowd, which is also slightly similar especially to older wrestling fans. Another former stable being the New World Order which was formed by Eric Bischoff from the old World Championship Wrestling (WCW) back in 1996, and consisted of Hulk Hogan, Kevin Nash and Scott Hall.

…attacking both Bryan and Kane who came out to save…

The group’s first interview on Raw, with Michael Cole, was a sign of what their intentions were. Their tagline is “the shield from injustice” and recognising what should be right in the company going forward.

This has led to attacks on both Monday Night Raw and Friday Night Smackdown, especially on number 1 contender for the WWE title Ryback and also the World Tag Team Champions Team Hell No (Kane and Daniel Bryan).  Last week on Smackdown the Shield made themselves known at the end of World Heavyweight Champion Big Show’s win against Daniel Bryan by attacking both Bryan and Kane who came out to save, but to no avail. Randy Orton has also been a victim after he defeated Brad Maddox who was involved in CM Punk’s Hell in a Cell victory against Ryback a few months ago.

…keeping his title…

It seems that all the attacks caused by this faction have helped the WWE Champion in keeping his title or protecting him from his challengers.

With WWE Champion CM Punk sustaining a knee injury, the main event at Tables, Ladders and Chairs has been changed to Team Hell No and Ryback vs. The Shield in a 6-man brawl live on Sunday 16 December on pay-per-view (PPV).

…it has the potential to be an epic journey…

It does prove to be an exciting time for any wrestling fan within WWE at the moment with the lead up to the Road to Wrestlemania 29. There is no doubt that this stable of guys will be involved in the build-up but how will it all unfold? Are Ambrose, Rollins and Reigns working for the WWE Champion along with Paul Heyman? How will it affect The Rock’s return to the company when he takes on CM Punk for the title at January’s Royal Rumble? It’s a fresh turn of events in World Wrestling Entertainment and it has the potential to be an epic journey going into 2013.
