Being a fond drinker of fine beverages, when my fellow friends arrive no night is complete without a round of cocktails. Now I’ve frequented some of the best bars in London for variations on the classics, but from all my drinking I have come to the conclusion that rum in a cocktail makes it that little bit better.

So here are three of my favourite rum cocktails that really show off the sweet and tasty essence of the spirit.

Rum Collins

Ingredients

  • . 2oz light rum
  • . Juice of one lime
  • . 1 teaspoon powdered sugar
  • . Carbonated water
  • . Lemon slice
  • . Cocktail cherry
  • . Ice cubes.

Instructions

  1. Shake the rum, lime juice and sugar and pour into a glass over ice.
  2. Fill glass with carbonated water.
  3. Decorate with lemon and cherry and serve.

Navy Grog

Ingredients

  • . 1/2 oz Light rum
  • . 1/2 oz Gold rum
  • . 1/2 oz Dark rum
  • . 1/2 oz Orange liqueur
  • . 1 oz grapefruit juice
  • . 1 oz orange juice
  • . 1 oz pineapple juice

Instructions

  1. Pour liquors into an ice-filled collins glass.
  2. Add juices.
  3. Shake.
  4. Garnish with an orange wedge and pineapple chunk.

Hemingway Daiquiri

Ingredients

  • . 1 1/2 oz white rum
  • . 1/4 oz maraschino liqueur
  • . 1/2 oz grapefruit juice
  • . 3/4 oz lime juice
  • . 3/4 oz simple syrup

Instructions

  1. Pour the ingredients into a cocktail shaker filled with ice.
  2. Shake well.
  3. Strain into a chilled cocktail glass.

Of course there are other fantastic cocktails out there, but these three are something a little special and really show off the fantastic flavours of the rum. Don’t be put off by other drinks however, as a mojito goes down just as well and if made right will be a firm favourite for years to come.
