The Mango Tree is a secluded Thai Oasis in the heart of Belgravia. It has come straight from its parent company, Coca, in Bangkok so an authentic experience goes without saying; its modern, sleek, feng-shui designed interior makes you forget that you’re sitting in the middle of London.

Placed in the centre of each table are huge silver bowls filled with spicy poppadoms,  so no need to hurry while making your order as you can nibble away on these as you sift through the menu, which at first seems quite daunting.

…The Mango Tree offers a banquet menu…

The menu presents a whole host of exotic flavours: the duck red curry comes served in a tropical pineapple, the pad thai is wrapped in a lattice of egg yolk, and the grilled fillet of seabass is hidden within a huge banana leaf. I tried the vegetarian red curry which had a few extremely hot chilies lurking in its midst but was otherwise faultless. If you really can’t decide what to order, The Mango Tree offers a banquet menu which, at £38-£41 per head, is pretty pricey but gives you a little taste of everything: from deep fried sweet corn cake to grilled duck to banana pudding.

A meal at The Mango Tree concludes with hot towels, always a treat, and a selection of chocolates – something which always wins me over! Furthermore, if you drop your contact details into a bowl on the way out, you’re in with the chance of winning a free meal – definitely not to be sniffed at.

Having parted with £15 for a vegetarian curry…

I’ve recently seen that every third Wednesday of the month, The Mango Tree hosts ‘Thai Nights’. If the fiery chilies aren’t enough to spice up your night then I’m sure the cultural dances, cooking demos and fruit carving would do just the trick!

However, my final word would be: don’t go to The Mango Tree if you’re not prepared to pay. Having parted with £15 for a vegetarian curry, shared rice and a glass of water, I’m not sure value for money is high on the priority list here. But if you fancy a treat, and an excuse to dress up, then tasty food, beautiful surroundings and attentive service is waiting for you at The Mango Tree.
