It’s strange how one decision can change someone’s life.

Here in the UK we have so much freedom of choice when it comes to what we eat and drink. If you want to eat healthier then you can change from red meat to tofu, plus or subtract salt from your food, and choose to eat chocolate or not. These are tiny examples in a sea of choice that affects our daily lives, but the main point I am trying to get across is that simply buying a different brand could influence and change the lives of people in a faraway country that do not have the opportunity or chance we have.

Fairtrade is an amazing institution that everyone knows about. They are currently running the Finding Hannah campaign, where they have taken an “actress” who doesn’t know anything about fairtrade coffee and shown her how simply switching to a fairtrade brand means the money comes back to the local farmers of the coffee in the “location” she has been brought to. Joining her on her journey is comedian Tony Law who adds his own raucous comedy to the endeavour.

They are also running a competition where if you can figure out where Hannah has gone they will fly you and a plus one to the location for a holiday. We’ve already found some hints and clues in the video so what do you think? Are you smart enough to find out where they are?

We are a self-involved culture, and it will take a bit of time to get everyone to think responsibly about the world we live in. The next time you’re at the supermarket have a browse around, swapping to a fairtrade brand may be a bit more expensive, but in my experience you will see the difference in flavour.
